Scouts That Code

Screen-free coding and robotics for Scout groups, districts and counties.

Scouts That Code brings hands-on coding to your young people without a single screen. They plan, programme and problem-solve using physical robots — building the thinking behind coding before they ever touch a keyboard.

The format

How a weekend works

You provide the venue. We bring everything else.

You supply a space that comfortably holds 30 young people

We run seven sessions across the day, 30 young people in each

Each session runs 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes

A full day takes up to 210 young people

Every young person receives a certificate

Most districts run us across a Saturday and Sunday, moving groups through in waves. Some run a single day. Both work.

Please note: we provide certificates, not badges. Badge purchase and presentation stays with your group or district.

Two workshops

Choose your workshop

Each session runs one of two workshops. Run different workshops on different days, or mix across the weekend.

Stage 1

Tech in Our World

We start with a giant shared mind map: where do we see technology, and what is it actually doing for us? From there, young people plan and create their own animations on a robot, then programme it to travel through a maze.

Entirely screen-free
Stage 2

Journey to Camp

Young people begin by creating a digital piece of artwork of their ideal camp. They then plan and programme a robotic train to complete a journey, collecting everything they need along the way before arriving at camp.

The programming is screen-free
Every section

Sections and mixing

We deliver to every section. To keep sessions pitched right, we ask that you only mix these combinations.

Squirrels / Beavers / Cubs
Cubs / Scouts
Scouts / Explorers

A planning note: our final session of the day runs until 19:05, and the one before it until 17:40. When scheduling, put younger sections into the earlier sessions and your Scouts and Explorers into the later ones. We'll help you map this out when you book.

Flexible & fair

Booking and payment

We ask for a 50% deposit, calculated on the maximum number of young people we'd be able to deliver to across the days you've booked. Your final invoice is then adjusted to reflect your actual numbers.

That means you can secure your dates before your registers close, and only pay for the young people who attend.

Ready to book?

Tell us your dates, your venue and roughly how many young people you're expecting, and we'll come back with a plan for the day.
